Media Player

Background

To enjoy movies on your computer screen, you need a media player. Most players will also display images and play audio. Media players differ by their ease-of-use, their support for various codecs, their abilities to read different formats and read from type of discs, etc.

Recommendation

We recommend KMPlayer for all users. This tool is super-easy to use comes with all codecs you will need so that no extra codec installation is required. In addition, it has tons of options the most advanced users may enjoy such as support for multiple audio channels, caption management, e-sky broadcasting support, real-time TV support, etc.

VLP Player is a suitable alternative and we mostly mention it here for its ability to read DVDs from all regions without locking your computer to one region in particular.

GOM Player is also a very nice player and, although we have seen it failing a few times on specific discs, it has a unique ability to read broken movie files which we thought was interesting enough to warrant a mention here.
