HTML Editor and Web Development

Background

For web development, it is critical to have a tool that allows editing HTML, CSS and other related formats.

Recommendation

We recommend using Visual Web Developer, an Visual Studio Express Edition tool from Microsoft. Not only this tool supports all of the above but it also is fully Wysiwyg, respect your source code while editing in the view, supports ASP.NET, allows developing in Javascript hence AJAX, etc. Although superbly designed it can get a bit of time to learn initially, but there are many free online tutorials to assist with this and this learning does eventually pay off.

There are other wysiwyg alternatives e.g. Komposer (an attempt to fix the buggy Nvu), and even more non-wysiwyg html editors e.g. Aptana Studio, PSPad, etc., but we do not recommend any of those over Visual Web Developer.
