GPS Applications for iPhone

Background

The iPhone is the best-selling smartphone nowadays, and its related application store has a fantastic success. So much actually that there are literally thousands of applications available, a large number being free to use. Part of those applications are focused on leveraging the built-in GPS capabilities in order to provide location-dependent services. We present here some of those very good applications.

Recommendations

GPS Tracker: tracks your journeys by sending GPS information along your tracks to a server; you can then review them afterwards on your computer, or your wife can see where you are while you are wandering in the woods ;-).

Trapster: uses your location information to tell you where are the radar or other enforcement points around you.

My Nearest: tells you what are the nearest everything around you, everything covering e.g. restaurants, gas stations, ATM, bars, parking lots, , etc.

GPS LTE: tons of GPS-related information provided to you. This notably includes a Bing maps integration, as well as a compass, a track recorder, a drive manager, and so many other applications.

Take…My Car: this great app helps you finding your car. Mark a point when you park, then go shopping, and use your iPhone to find your way back to your car.

Speedometer: tells you your speed, whatever you’re doing.

Nextstop: this is actually an HTML5 app you can get from the nextstop web site; allows you locating places around you that others liked very much; includes guides and search features.

Map Speed: a simple app that shows you where you are, as well as what your direction and speed are.
